How I Became an Editor

Expert Proofing is owned and managed by Jacqueline Doucette

I was the only student in my high school English classes
who actually enjoyed learning about grammar and parts of speech.

An avid reader,
I will pick up just about any written work
and peruse it when I've got a moment to spare.

I've spent over 30 years
working in various capacities for the same employer
and I've enjoyed it all.

I've  spent many hours wondering what I want to be when I grow up,
and I've come to the conclusion that there's no need to grow up,
as long as I love what I'm doing and can make a living at it!

My first love is volleyball and it was after a match one night
that I realized editing was the ideal job for me.

I'd been looking for a new line of work,
something that I could take into retirement from my current day job.
One of my team mates asked what I like to do most.
The answer was easy - sit on the beach with my feet up, reading a book!

Suddenly, the light bulb turned on -
how better to make use of my somewhat annoying habit of pointing out everyone's writing errors
AND indulge my desire to read than by becoming an editor?
And the rest, as the saying goes, is history!
